Tirunesh is a tall, beautiful filly came into the HART program 10/12/2020. She is very nicely bred and Candy Ride is her dam’s sire. Tirunesh had a brief but successful racing career at Turfway Park in AZ but after moving to Prairie Meadows racetrack had not been training well. She had no known injuries but was not showing speed in her timed works. She was adopted less than a month later by our HART trainer who planned to show her in dressage at RRP (Retired Racehorse Project) in Kentucky, and eventually work towards a career in 3-day eventing.
Tirunesh has a great mind and a calm demeanor and was hauled to many places to prepare her for the chaos of RRP. She experienced rodeos and strange arenas and took it all in stride. Tirunesh even started on a few trail obstacles at Prairie Rose Arena. Unfortunately, she seemed to be a bit off in the rear at times so was given time off. Upon returning to work she was going well but the issue in the rear resurfaced so a lameness exam was performed and revealed hind proximal suspensory desmitis. Our veterinarian recommended we give her 6 months off with the expectation she will eventually do well in a less competitive career (lower level jumping, dressage, or English flat classes).
Tirunesh has been cleared by our veterinarian on 3/2/2022 to return to work. She is moving soundly and will be slowly brought back into work.
This is a lovely mare and some lucky adopter is going to fall in love with Tirunesh! Her ground manners are exemplary.
