Smiles came to HART in a rather unusual fashion. His racetrack trainer sold him to a person that was believed to be placing him with individuals associated with polo. Unfortunately, Smiles ended up transferring hands multiple times before ending up in a rescue/kill pen in Oklahoma. A group of individuals came together with support from Thoroughbred Athletics to take Smiles out of the pen; however, he needed a home after being taken out of his horrific situation. 

Smiles having just started at Prairie Meadows still qualified to be in the HART program and we offered to take him in. He was transferred to us after 30 quarantine in Oklahoma, then we followed that up with an additional 30 days of quarantine here in Iowa. He dealt with some hoof abscess issues initially but is doing well with shoes in front. He’s a handsome guy and an exceptionally sweet horse despite all he has been through. Smiles is now with our trainer and will begin work on the ground and under saddle. Come meet him, he’ll steal your heart!
